TCM Acupuncture

What is TCM Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a nervous system regulator that has demonstrated clinical effectiveness, therapeutic benefit, or adjunctive value across over 200 conditions according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Acupuncture was originated in China over 2,000 years ago as an ancient healing practice and it’s effects on neurophysiology have been validated through thousands of scientific studies.

How Does Acupuncture Work?

Acupuncture uses very fine hair-thin needles placed at specific points on the body called acupuncture points to promote healing and restore balance. Researchers have found that the physical property of the skin where the acupuncture points are located have roughly 20x less electrical resistance than other points on the skin. These points with their low resistance, look like whirlpools, or areas where electrons can flow with energy currents moving from point to point. A group of certain acupuncture points will make up what is called a meridian. As electrons travel through these meridians, they create measurable waves that extend beyond the body (called a vibrational field). When a meridian becomes blocked, the electrical flow is disrupted. By stimulating these points with Acupuncture, it helps to clear the blockage and restore the free flow of electrons.

History of Science in Acupuncture

Ancient doctors didn’t have microscopes or MRIs, but they spent centuries observing how the body responded to stimulation in certain areas. In the 1950s and 60s, scientists in Japan and France (like Dr. Yoshio Nakatani and Dr. Pierre de Vernejoul) found that acupuncture points could be identified by lower skin resistance, using devices like ohmmeters. These points even conduct small electric currents better than non-acupuncture areas. In one study, radioactive dye was injected into an acupuncture point. The fascinating result, instead of following known blood vessels or lymphatics, the dye traveled along meridian pathways that matched ancient acupuncture maps. This suggests that meridians may represent a subtle energetic or fascial system. Modern imaging (fMRI) has shown that stimulating different acupuncture points activates specific areas in the brain, even areas on the opposite side of the body.

Common Benefits Patients Report with Acupuncture Care

Dr. Krone’s Approach

Dr. Krone specializes in using acupuncture points primarily on the hands and feet—some of the most responsive areas of the body according to the homunculus. He also emphasizes points that target deafferentation, helping the nervous system reset and often producing the most noticeable and lasting results.
